A KEY gripe with calling home while you´re abroad is the roaming
service and its charges. And if your service provider doesn´t offer
roaming, there´s the hassle of looking for a local SIM for your phone
when you arrive in a foreign country.
Enter Sedania Travelneeds2u Sdn Bhd (ST2U)´s Global Starter Pack, or
GSP, which lets you buy a local SIM of the country you want to travel
to, on home ground.
Now available for locals travelling to Indonesia
and vice versa, you can get the SIM cards from travel agents or
www.travelneeds2u.com.
The GSP application sits on the online travel agent system platform
Abacus Whiz. So, once you have made a flight booking with an agent, you
can buy a SIM card to be used at the destination as well. You will be
given a voucher that lets you redeem the pre-booked SIM card from an
ST2U representative upon arrival, explained ST2U´s chief executive
Radzib Ariff. The company aims to launch GSP in Singapore,
Thailand and the Philippines for originating outbound passengers with a
sales target of over 100,000 starter kits by year-end. “While we
are initially offering voice service only, we will provide SIM with
data communications once demand revs up,” Radzib said, adding that ST2U
is eyeing the American and European markets for the long term.
