As one of the former major mobile phone manufacturer in the world before the Apple and Samsung era, Nokia plans to make a big comeback to the market by releasing the Nokia 6, an Android-based mobile phone that is scheduled to officially launch in January 2017. Nokia 6 is powered by 1.1 GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and comes with 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage that can be further expanded to 128GB using a dedicated microSD slot. The phone is additionally equipped with a 16-megapixel camera on the back and a 8-megapixel camera on the front.
Nokia 6 will be made with high-quality craftsmanship and design quality. In order to manufacture one Nokia 6 from a solid block of 6000 series aluminium, the whole process will take around 55 minutes. After that, two separate anodizing processes are applied and to make sure that each Nokia 6 is polished at least 5 times, the whole process took more than 10 hours to complete. As an end result, customers will be able to enjoy a quality aluminium body phone that looks great visually and structurally.
The first flash sale of Nokia 6 was carried by HMD Global on JD.com, a popular e-commerce website in China. As a result, Nokia 6 was sold out within 1 minute, although the number of units sold was unknown. Since the 4th of January 2017, it was also reported that more than 1 million registrations were recorded for the Nokia 6 and in addition to that, the phone has also recorded another 250,000 registration within the first 24 hours after the flash sale.
Within the last 3 years, Nokia 6 was the only smartphone with the Nokia branding after the previous Nokia Lumia 638 in 2014. If the intention for the exclusive launch of Nokia 6 in China was to test the Chinese market if the consumers are still receptive towards the old and established Nokia brand, these results would have definitely made HMD Global, the main exclusive supplier for Nokia with a 10 years license, very happy. The main Nokia Company still exists but they focus more in providing telecommunications infrastructure equipment and pro-grade Ozo camera. As for the rest of the world, it was reported that Nokia and HMD Global is planning to announce another few more Nokia Android based phone models during the Mobile World Congress 2017 event that will be held from 27th of February to 2nd of March 2017 in Barcelona, Spain.
Nokia 6 is currently only exclusively available on JD.com and it is attractively priced at 1699 Chinese Yen (RM1099).
